Structural Masonry Repair Somerset

Corbel provide a range of services where repairs are needed to failing masonry.

Of special benefit is the Cintec anchoring system. Corbel are registered installers. These anchors comprise a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve into which a specially developed low-shrinkage, cementitious grout is injected under low pressure.

In laymans terms, a long hole is drilled through the masonry and across any weaknesses. The anchor is inserted into the hole and filled. The net result is a really strongly attached and located stitch with a steel core which grabs all the components it passes through.

Alternatives we use are the Helifix/helibar or Spirotie systems which provide a similar strengthening to cracks and weaknesses in brick, stone or cob structures. Masonry can be strapped back to or through floor or roof structures.

The major advantage that Corbel have over other structural repair firms is that we have the capability to do the associated building work rather than just the anchor filling. We also have a far greater sympathy with the building than others would, which is vital if historic buildings are to be protected during structural repair.

In many instances of historic stonework, iron pins and cramps were used for fixing and the expansion of these can lead to stone damage and falling masonry.

When rebuilding or repairing stonework, we will always replace iron pins and cramps with high quality stainless steel. Similarly pins, micro-pins and armatures used in repairs will always be stainless.
